As you start north on State Route 447 and approach the town of Nixon, Nevada you will turn left on State Route 446. A short distance will bring you right into Sutcliffe, Nevada.

Sutcliffe is on the Piaute Researvation and sits right on the west shore of Pyramid Lake.  Being right on the lake its primary activity seems to be fishing. Pyramid Lake is home to the biggest Cut Throat Trouts and that seems to be all this place is about. It has a very large fish hatchery at the south end of town and a boat marina at the north. Tourist are probably the biggest income.

Near the center of town sits Crosby Lodge, a glorified Bruno's but with much more lighting. The town is on Paiute Reservation except Crosby Lodge. It was granfathered in when the reservation was extablished. Inside is not Paiute property but step out the door and you're on the researvation!

Crosby's has a decent store as well as a bar and casino. It is also a wealth of information about the Pyramid Lake area from Nixon on up to the Smoke Creek area. One of the nicest thing is the friendly staff.

Almost directly across the lake from Crosby's sets Pyramid Rock and the Great Stome Mother area.

The shoreline of Pyramid lake is most interesting

The west shore line of Pyramid Lake has several coves and beaches. Be warned to pay attention to signs stating soft sand. Its nice walking through but do not drive - not even in a 4WD - you may regret it.

The area is  covered with Tufa formations ideal for photo opts and rock climbing.

Words can not describe the color of Pyramid Lake water
The Needles area can be seen off to the north
