PROJECT 2K10 The project is set to launch at BALLS 19 in September of 2010. It was originally built and flown by Kreig Williams, a past Tripoli Pittsburgh member from Ohio. Kreig dropped out of rocketry at the peak of his career. He was a very ingenious builder and created several rockets that still have people talking about today. Including the Stone Henge he built in his back yard! Kreig scratch built everything from the tubes to the parachutes. He was also very innovative in his approach to solving problems. He was versed in just about anything he undertook and if he wasn't when he started he was when it was done. A firm believer that common rope was good he utilized it on just about all of his recovery systems - much to everyone's amazement. "MY NEW ROCKET" as it was called by Kreig flew successfully several times in Pennsylvania and Ohio while still under construction. Then on to LDRS 19 in Orangeburg, SC to fly with completed paint and the awe of everyone watching. In the summer of 2009 I acquired "MY NEW ROCKET" and decided it would be fun to rebuild it and launch it at BALLS in 2010. Being an old Body shop guy repairing cars I found this new project to be very interesting. Not only taking someone else's stuff and restoring and improving things but to see how the mind of someone else, who had their act together, approached situations and design. Aside from the aforementioned use of rope this rocket is very interesting and really gave me new incite on how to get things done. The links below will document my progress bringing this rocket back to life. Hopefully when 2K10, as its now called, is finished and launches, it will meet with Kreig's approval. The links are in progressive order with the newest updates at the top. Hope you enjoy. |
