TRIPOLI PITTSBURGH
PROJECT 2009

Members of Tripoli Pittsburgh have been approached by a Comercial Entity to build and launch a rocket as a joint venture to promote their enterprise, and our club. The project will be launched at BALLS-18 in Nevada. Members planning to attend BALLS have stepped forward to work on the project, as yet still un-named. This should prove a rewarding venture for both parties involved.

The vehicle is designed on 8" diameter G-12 tubing with an overall length of 12 feet. Dual Deployment will send both the drough and main out of the top fired by an R-DAS altimeter backed up with an ALTEC unit. It is planned to carry a High Definition video camera to record the flight on-board. The Sustainer will have four fins molded as an integral part of the airframe. The propulsion witl be supplied by a 6" diameter, 33" long O-Class motor using MARK WHITE propellant. Final weights and altitude predictions are not yet set at this time.

NOSE CONE - George Pike
The 8" diameter Nose Cone will be 40" long (5 cal.). A stepped in bulkhead will form the forward recovery anchor.

RECOVERY - Tom Blazanin
The Recovery section will be 8" diameter and 42" long containing an easy deploy drough and a XX-SkyAngle main, controlled by a home made tether unit. All restaining lines will be 1" nylon.

ELECTRONIC - Christine Rial
The E-Bay will be 18" long and slip fit into the airframe tubes. The dual recovery will be controlled and recorded by an R-DAS unit backed up with an ALTEC altimeter.

VIDEO - TR Garmin
A high definition video camera will be on board the E-Bay section to record the flight on-board. Several ground based cameras will also record the launch.

SUSTAINER - Joe Pscolka
The 8" diameter x 60" main airframe will house the 6" motor and have four fins molded as an integral part of the Sustainer section.

MOTOR - NASSA Group
The 6" by 33" motor will contain 24" of NASSA RED 1.0B propellant in three 8" grains. The final configuration is not yet designed but will definitely be in the O-Class raqnge.

LAUNCH TOWER - Dave Rose
A special launch pad is being designed to augment Tripoli Pittsburgh's equipment and provide the much needed support of the club's very active Research people.
